Brian Charles, Double Reed Repair Specialist
with 25 years of dedication to oboes and bassoons.

|
Hello! I’m Brian Charles, owner of Charles Double Reed Company. I would like you to consider sending or bringing your double reed instrument to me for adjustments and repairs.
I began playing music as an oboist in high school, and added bassoon when I attended Juilliard School. When it came time to have my instruments serviced, I was lucky to have access to some of the finest double reed specialists. An intimate knowledge of these highly specialized and delicate instruments is essential to quality results. Double reed repair is an art as well as a craft. It’s something I have studied and specialized in for over 25 years.
While at school, I worked as the reed maker at Ponte Music Company on West 46th Street in New York City. I was privileged to observe and be tutored by numerous working repairmen. This gave me an unusually thorough background, especially in the tricks and subtleties of double reed repair. I continue to study regularly, refining techniques and sometimes inventing new tools and methods. I have lectured on repair nationally and am a professional member of the nation’s foremost repair organization, N.A.P.B.I.R.T.
When you send your instrument to me for repair, here’s what happens: I examine, play-test and evaluate your instrument at no charge except shipping. I provide you with a firm estimate of how long repairs will take and how much they will cost. If there are multiple options of how to proceed, I will explain them thoroughly. Then, I will proceed or not, depending upon your preference.
I welcome whatever level of instrument you’ve got, from plastic beginners models to exotics. Over the years, my clients have included members of major US and international orchestras, Broadway musicians, universities, teachers and students. I have experience with many dozens of brands, both familiar and unusual and can sometimes provide detailed history of your instrument as well.
All repairs are done by me, in my shop in New Hampshire and come with a 30 day guarantee of satisfaction. I hope to hear from you and I welcome any questions or concerns you may have.
With Best Regards,
-- Brian
